Link: The Politics Test on Ok Cupid

Comments:

Hi Tommaso,

You need to correct the syntax in the HTML for your OK Cupid links at the bottom of your post. As is, they are both broken.

I took the same tes, I'm a "Republican". Also try and visit http://politicalcompass.org, I think it's a little bit more extensive but the questions are less predictable.

Fixed the link.

71% social, 93% economic... making me a libertarian, as I suspected. I guess I'm a borderline anarchist too. These are always fun.

Is that Adam Sandler in their picture of "where important people stand"? And Darth Vader always seemed more of an economic liberal, what with his opinions that destiny would take care of things.

Uh... better make that economic permissive.

Oh, we can still be friends. Remember, libertarian doesn't actually mean anything, right? We hashed this out a couple weeks ago.

I'm a.... but, really, who cares?

Note that this little test totally misrepresents fascism, conceiving it as socially (very) conservative free market capitalism. Fascism was originally a spinoff of anarcho-syndicalism conjoined with organic nationalism. That means that it was never very interested in free markets per se, and particularly in the Italian example (but not just) involved a strong "state corporatist" model inconsistent with anything we associate with modern liberal economies (except in Japan). Just one reason for thinking such tests are little more than exercises in vanity. Political choice actually depends on much more complicated stuff.

I agree with anonymous, people think fascism is a free market type of government just because it's been labeled as "extreme right". No fascist movement was free market, least of all the Nazis and Italian Fascists. They had the most restrictive markets, save the Soviets, in Europe.

People often mistaken the Japanese and the Chileans under Pinochet to be some sort of fascist regime. There's a huge difference between an authoritarian capitalist regime and a fascist regime. Obviously people are too ignorant to understand the difference so many of us have gotten used to it.

Fascism's corporate model submerges capital and labor underneath the government's interests. That doesn't seem too free market to me. Essentially that's the same system the Soviets used.
